How to use our Services

If you have an Emergency or require a Home Visit, see the Home page

Seeing a Doctor

You can make an appointment to see your doctor by telephoning the surgery 01328 737000 at any time during opening hours. If your usual doctor is not available, you can make an appointment to see another of the Practice doctors.
If you need to see a doctor on the same day at the Surgery, please ring at 8.00am for an appointment. There is also an emergency surgery at 5.00pm on Monday to Friday. Please ring and make an appointment for the emergency surgery.

Chaperone Policy

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they consider one is required. The chaperone may be a family member or friend, but on occasions a formal chaperone may be preferred.
Patients are advised to ask for a chaperone if required, at the time of booking an appointment, if possible, so that arrangements can be made and the appointment is not delayed in any way. The Healthcare Professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations.

Telephone Appointments

You can now ring and make an appointment to talk to your Doctor on the 'phone. Just ring Reception on 01328 737000 and ask for a 'phone appointment.

Seeing a Nurse

If you need to see a Nurse appointments can be made in the usual way through Reception, or by referral from your Doctor . . . . also see the Clinics page for available services.

If you are unable to keep any appointment with a Doctor or a Nurse, please let us know, even at the last minute, as we can then fit an urgent case into your empty slot.

prescriptions The Surgery offers a dispensing service during opening hours to patients living more than a mile from the chemist in Burnham Market and who wish us to do so. Dispensary is closed between the hours 1pm- 2pm.
NHS Prescription Charges. You will be expected to pay for each item dispensed when you receive it, and at the rate prevailing at the time, or against a pre-payment certificate. The Government, not the Practice, sets the charges.
See our Prescription page where you can see a full list of charges, and those who are exempt. Information can also be found on the Department of Health's website

Repeat Prescriptions

Telphone Us If you are on regular medication you will be issued with a repeat prescription slip. You should use this slip to order your next supply by taking it to the Surgery or leaving it at your nearest village collection point . A message can be left on the Dispensary's dedicated prescription line 01328 737002. You can also fax your prescription request on 01328 730104. If you send a stamped addressed envelope, we will send your paper prescription to you.

Non-dispensing prescriptions take one full working day and please collect after 2pm. Dispensing prescriptions take two full working days, again please collect after 2pm. Please allow three full working days if sending to one of the village collection points. (see below).

On your Repeat Prescription Form you can arrange to collect your medicines direct from the Dispensary at the Surgery or you can have them delivered to your nearest delivery point where they can be collected at your convenience. There are collection points at Deepdale Post office, Thornham - The Drove, North Creake - Village hall and Docking Mini-Supermarket where you can also leave your prescription for collection. This is a delivery and collection service manned entirely by volunteers.

The Dispensary is open 8.30am to 1pm then 2pm to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

On the Repeat Prescription Form is a date for your Medication Review. Please make an appointment to see your Doctor at this time before ordering your next supply of medicines.

Visitors to our Area

If you are a visitor to the area, or have friends or relatives staying with you who need medical attention, we will be pleased to help. If you are a citizen of the European Union, or you live in a country with which the UK has a reciprocal arrangement to provide medical services, you will be registered as a 'temporary resident' within the NHS and your consultation will be free. Countries with a reciprocal medical arrangement with the UK are listed on the Department of Health's website.  If you are not entitled to NHS care we would be happy to see you as a private patient for which there would be a charge.

New Registrations

The Burnhams Surgery welcomes new registrations. Please call in at the Surgery and ask at Reception for a registration form. When you have completed the form, a Receptionist will make an appointment convenient to you during the AfternoonNew Registrations Nurses Clinic for your health check and you will be entered on to one of the doctors' lists at this time.

Non NHS Services

The Practice offers a range of non-NHS services and the current British Medical Association recommended fees are charged. These services include medical examinations for driving, insurance, travel, private medical certificates and medical reports.  Please make your wishes known to a Receptionist who will help you to decide who it is you want to see.
